Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is created by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl and it’s purpose is that you make a top 10 list on Tuesday out of the topics she provides. However, you don’t have to stick exactly to 10, you may also put more or less books/things on the lists. Moreover, you are allowed to give an “unique” spin to the topic whenever that works better for you. Well, let’s move on to this week’s list!

Today’s actual prompt is: Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With, but I did something similar a while back with another meme. Therefore, I took a very old prompt and will go ahead with it. So, there are some books out there that I will never read in my life, sorry not sorry.

The Hunger games by Suzanne Collins

Actually I started the first book last year, but I didn’t make it past the 50% mark. Therefore I won’t continue that book and will never read the rest.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

I have a feeling that this is going to give me a The Hunger Games vibe and that I won’t like it at all. Therefore I removed it from my TBR.

The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

The synopsis just doesn’t suck me into this story, so no.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Again, the synopsis is not drawing any of my attention, so I won’t ever pick up this series.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

I believe that the series is called this, but I am not sure as I only know the Dutch translation. However, I DNF’ed Riders by the same author, so I doubt that I will like these books.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Can we just gasp about the length of ALL books? They are so huge and I am afraid that they might get boring and repetitive towards the end.

Any book by Paulo Coelho

I tried The Alchemist, but I kept falling asleep because it is such a boring book. Therefore I am very hesitant to try other books by Coelho.

Lord Of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

These books are so big and I have never had any interest in the movies. This also applies to The Hobbit.

Literally any classic

Well, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I will never read the common classics. They don’t sound appealing to me and the language is complicated. It is such a strugle to get through them. I’m not talking about the English ones, but also the Dutch translations are not very up to date. Therefore, the language is old and barely used anymore. No, no classics for me.

Fifty Shades Of Grey by E. J. James

Fifty Shades Of Grey, you love it or you hate it. However, I will never read them since these books are erotica and I don’t like that genre.

So far, some of the books I will never read. Which books will you never read?

  1. I am with you on Divergent and Outlander. I read Divergent and regretted it. Although kudos to the author for writing it at around age 24 and making a bazillion dollars….. But Outlander? Didn’t make it through the first book. When I tell people that they are always mortified – like it is a personal attack! I say to each their own.

  2. I read the Hunger Games books up until Mockingjay, and couldn’t finish that one. It was a long time ago though. Catching Fire was the best, in my opinion! Divergent, too, the last book was NOT good! The first was was good, but then… downhill, for me. I saw The Maze Runner movies finally just a few months ago, and I was so confused by them??? Kinda glad I didn’t waste my time reading the books. I’ve also never read (or seen) Lord of the Rings. My boyfriend dragged me to all The Hobbit movies, but those were okay.

  3. Yeah I couldn’t get through the 5th Wave. It was just too dark and depressing for me. :/
I liked the first couple books of Divergent, but I struggled to get through the last one, and all the movies are HORRIBLE! They are seriously the worst movie adaptions I’ve ever seen. XD
I LOVE the Hunger Games though. I read the first book when I was 13 when it was just starting to become popular, and I loved all of the movies too. It was what introduced me to YA, and I was never into Harry Potter or Twilight or anything like that, so it’s the only book fandom I feel like I was ever ACTUALLY a part of, so it holds a special place in my heart.

  4. I have read almost all of these! LOL! =] I mean, I have read a few classics. I have NOT read the Maze Runner and I haven’t read Poelo Coehlo. The only LOTR book I have read is The Hobbit but I have seen the movies and I plan to read the books someday. But to each their own! All the books/series you listed are big commitments so save your time and read what you enjoy!

  5. I didn’t care for The Hunger Games, Divergent and I didn’t even end up finishing The Maze Runner series. It was the worst. I liked the first The 5th Wave book but the rest of the series went sort of downhill. The sequel in any case wasn’t too great.

I get what you mean with the Dutch translations being not up to date of classiscs. Does that mean you are willing to try the books Blossom Books are releasing since they are redoing it all, just based on language I mean?

Oh I want to read those, but I can’t. Because of the illustrations they can’t transform these into ebooks 🙁

Dat is echt naar! Dat je exemplaar is ingepikt door een ex. Maar gelukkig zijn smaken er om te verschillen 🙂
