Down the TBR Hole #9

It has been a while, but I’m back with another Down the TBR Hole. In this one, I’m going back to the bottom of my TBR for a bit, because I changed my mind on some books.

Down the TBR Hole is originally created by Lia @ Lost in a story, unfortunately her blog is no more. This is how it works:

  • Go to your “To read” shelf on Goodreads.
  • Sort it by “date added” and click on “reverse” so that the oldest addition is on top.
  • Pick the top 5 (or more if you love a good challenge) books, read the synopsis and think about whether you want to keep them or if they may go.
  • Write in this blog post a little bit about the book and what you decide to do with it.
  • Tell us the statistics at the start and at the end.
  • Number of books on my TBR: 212

Holding up the universe by Jennifer Niven

I already addressed this one in an earlier edition of Down the TBR hole, but I actually am not going to read this book anytime soon. I hear so many mixed reviews and I just lost interest.

Verdict: remove

The Emerald sea by Richelle Mead

I was convinced to read this book anytime soon, but apparently I’m not. Somewhere deep down I’m still interested in Tamsyn’s story, but not at the moment. For now, I will kick it off my TBR. I don’t even own the book.

Verdict: remove

The miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth

Again, another book I wanted to keep at first. However, I heard that this book is really slow and I just don’t like that. I somehow have a feeling this will end up on the DNF pile, so here it goes.

Verdict: remove

The Boy in the Headlights by Samuel Bjork

I liked the first book in this series, but was disappointed by the second one. However, I’m still curious for this next book, so I will keep it for now. I’m not in a thriller mood really at the moment, so it has to wait.

Verdict: keep

Fallen Academy: Year One by Leia Stone

I will keep this for now, but I’m not that sure. Will I like this book? The average rating on Goodreads is quite high though.

Verdict: keep

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

Someone please push me to pick this book up?! I hear so many great things and I really liked Most of all you by this author. This particular book has been on my TBR for years now, damnit.

Verdict: keep

Till death by Jennifer Armentrout

This one gets so many mixed reviews, but I mainly like books by Jennifer Armentrout. So, I’m keeping this for now.

Verdict: keep

Maybe someday by Colleen Hoover

Uh oh, confession time… I still haven’t read this 🙈. Anyway, I just finished another book by Colleen Hoover, so this one has to wait.

Verdict: keep

Confess by Colleen Hoover

I’m not sure what to think of this one, it doesn’t make me feel any urg to read it. However, it’s a Colleen Hoover book, so I eventually want to read it someday.

Verdict: keep

Books 2 till 6 in the Wait for you series by Jennifer Armentrout

I read Wait for you last year, but as these books are quite similar regarding storyline, I just need to wait a while before reading the rest of the series. Anyway, I will definitely keep them.

Verdict: keep

City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

This is just a matter of time, I just wasn’t that caught up in the universe. Now I am, so I will be reading them soon.

Verdict: keep

The entire The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare

Again, I wasn’t caught up.

Verdict: keep

Eden Summer by Liz Flanagan

Another keeper as this book was nominated for a prize here last year. Well, I just didn’t come around to read it yet.

Verdict: keep

The bone season by Samantha Shannon

Okay this one will be removed. I added it last year, but I don’t think I’ll like it. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Priory of the Orange Tree, so I doubt I will finish The Bone Season. Furthermore, only the first one or two books are translated into Dutch, and I guess this series is quite difficult in English.

Verdict: remove

A Pound of Flesh by Sophie Jackson

This is just a matter of “so many books, so little time”. I just don’t get attracted to this book anymore.

Verdict: remove

Enchantée by Gita Trelease

First of all, I’m so done with the combination of YA set in Paris and involving magic. Second, I heard so many negative reviews that I returned my book on Audible. No, this one has to go.

Verdict: remove

Ik kan er nét niet bij by Sander Verheijen

This is a Dutch non-fiction and probably easy to read, but I don’t feel like reading non-fiction anytime soon. So therefore it has to go for now.

Verdict: remove

Don’t skip out on me by Willy Vlautin

I actually don’t know why I added this book in the first place, but I obviously lost interest. So, it has to go.

Verdict: remove

Anna dressed in blood by Kendare Blake

When I added this book to my TBR, it sounded really cool. However, I never picked it up and I don’t think I will be doing so in a very short time. Therefore, it’s time to say goodbye.

Verdict: remove

  • Number of books analysed: 26
  • Number of books kept: 17
  • Number of books removed: 9
  • Number of books on my TBR: 202

Do you agree with the choices I’ve made?

Anna dressed in blood, The bone season and The miss education of Cameron Post are on my tbr as well. I want to read them still.
Ik kan er nét niet bij was beautiful.
I hated a pound of flesh so I’m with you on this one.
Cassandra Clare is my favorite author.
I didn’t like Archer’s voice. I would remove that one.
The emerald sea I recently removed as well but I liked Holding up the universe.
