Bookhaul | November 2019

November 30, 2019     Laurie     Bookhaul, Monthly overviews

November is already over, which means that we only have just one month left of 2019. In October, I had a ridiculously huge bookhaul, so I decided to keep it quiet in November. Well, I quite succeeded. Note: In the Dutch books section, the Dutch covers are shown along with the English titles.

Dutch books

For an online book club I received a review copy of the Dutch edition of We are displaced by Malala Yousafzai. I’m coordinating this book club, so I already read this book. I felt something is lacking, so I was not completely satisfied with this reading experience.

The runaway family by Diney Costeloe is a book I got from this month’s Bookchoice selection. My mom kept telling me to read Costeloe’s books, so I guess this opportunity is a good one to try them out.

Another book from this month’s Bookchoice selection is a Dutch book by a Dutch author, De mooiste dag van je leven by Tamara Haagmans. This is a feelgood story and they either work for me or not, so I’m really curious about this one.

The last book I downloaded from this month’s Bookchoice selection is Echo by the Dutch author Thomas Olde Heuvelt. His previous book, Hex, got an English translation. However, I haven’t seen one for Echo. I’m really curious for this book as well, since it’s a typical case of love it or hate it.

I received a review copy of The shape of night by Tess Gerritsen. I really love her Rizzoli & Isles series, but I barely read any of her other books. However, I heard good stories about this one, so let’s read it soon and see!

The moment I saw the synopsis of Now is everything by Amy Giles, I knew I wanted to read it. This book has been released in 2017, but finally got its Dutch release in the beginning of November. As you could have seen in my review this morning, I am very glad I read this book.

The same could be said about Scars like wings by Erin Stewart. I knew I wanted to read this book the moment I saw the synopsis. Well, I read this book and finished it in just one day. You can find my review here.

I caved and bought The eighth life (for Brilka) by Nino Haratischwili. I saw that this book will get an English release soon or it already has been released, not sure really. However, this book is 1275 pages long and I’m currently reading it. Good timing, right before starting at a new position and department at work. I see a pattern here, because when I started in this organization back in March, I started reading The priory of the orange tree just a few days before. Oh well, let’s see how it goes as The eighth life is a longer book.

English books

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman has been on my TBR for nearly two years. However, I never listened to the audiobook and in order to finally read it, I bought myself the Kindle copy. I am currently reading this book as well and I’m not a huge fan. I like Alice her other book, I was born for this, better.

After reading Two dark reigns, I knew I wanted to read Five dark fates by Kendare Blake as an ebook instead of an audiobook. So, I bought it and I can read it soon. I’m really curious how the story of Arsinoe, Mirabella, Jules and Katherine will be wrapped up!

My pre-order of Girls of storm and shadow by Natasha Ngan arrived, yay! I still have to read it, I just didn’t want to dive into it straight away. I hope this book is not underwhelming me like unfortunately many 2019 releases do.

The starless sea by Erin Morgenstern is a book I got twice, in both audiobook and ebook. I already returned the audiobook, because I didn’t like it. I didn’t really like the book either as you can read in my review.

Two pre-orders in this section, and the first one is The queen of nothing by Holly Black. Probably my most anticipated book of this year and therefore I immediately started reading it after receiving it. Unfortunately, I have issues with this book, you can read about them here.

Let’s finish this bookhaul with Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. I pre-ordered as soon as I finished Skyward and I’m planning on reading this book soon.

Have you gotten any of these books?
