Kell is one of the last travellers–magicians with a rare ability to travel between parallel universes connected by one magical city.
There’s Grey London, without magic and ruled by the mad King George III. Red London–where magic is revered, and where Kell was raised alongside the heir to the empire. White London–where people fight to control the remaining magic and magic fights back.
And once there was Black London…
At first, I was a little confused. The four Londons and it’s rulers confused me. However, after a while I got the hang of it and the book became easier for me to read. Despite the fact that English is not my first language, this book was quite easy to read. Maybe it is because I’m more experienced in reading in English than I was before. However, fantasy is still difficult sometimes. Therefore, this book will get a reread as soon as the Dutch translation is out in January.
Well, let’s move on to the story. I really had no clue where this would go. What is happening to all the magic? How does it work? Will there be a war or something? I won’t answer these questions, because I might give away a lot by doing so. The only thing I can tell you about the story is that I enjoyed it. I really did. I didn’t read this book very fast, since I wanted to suck it all up. I didn’t want to finish it.
To be honest, I didn’t expect Kell to be so badass. He seemed boring to me at first. And Lila? She’s a female badass who knows how to retrieve what she wants. And yes, she knows it even more when a particular something happens. No, I’m definitely not going to tell you guys what that something is. Kell and Lila make a perfect duo for the mission they have to accomplish and trust me, it is a hell of a mission.
I really have no idea what else to say about A darker Shade Of Magic except that I will be reading the next installments of this series as soon as I can.
What did you think of this book?
