When The Darkest Starr by Jennifer L. Armentrout was published in Ocotober 2018, I just finished the third book in the Lux series. I already met Luc and I knew I wanted to read this book. However, I had to wait until I finished Lux, to avoid spoilers. I finished that series in February, so, it was finally time to read The Darkest Star.

When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...
#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the universe of the Lux in this brand new series, featuring beloved characters both new and old.
I didn’t want to, but I kind of automatically compared The Darkest Star and its characters to Lux. These are two totally different series, but set in the same world with some new and some familiar faces. The Darkest Star picks up four years after the final events in Lux and you can read this book on its own. However, there are spoilers of Lux, but these are explained. In my opinion, you understnad some revelations better whenever you have read the Lux series.
At first, I found the pacing of The Darkest Star somewhat slow. I was not that invested in Evie and Luc, something I was with Katy and Daemon. For me, it took a really long while before I was invested in the characters and in the story. Luc was his Origin self and we got a small glimse of Daemon. However, I still missed some characters.
Towards the end, some shocking revelations were done and you can understand them when you never read Lux, but they will definitely make more sense when you did read that series. The Darkest Star was a really good read and I can’t wait for the second book to arrive in October!
